Consul General of Ireland in Chicago Brian Cahalane Talks with UW-Madison Students and Public

Consul General of Ireland in Chicago Brian Cahalane visited the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Wednesday, Oct 15. The event, “Foreign Policy and Transatlantic Relations – an Irish Perspective,” hosted by European Studies was moderated by European Studies director, and professor in the departments of Political Science and Public Affairs, Mark Copelovitch.

In addition to discussing foreign policy, Consul General Cahalane spoke on diverse topics from the cultural ties between Ireland and the U.S. sustained through such programs as Ireland House and Irish Fest, and the strong Irish business ties in the Midwest to Ireland’s commitment to neutrality and international aid, especially in Africa.

The students, faculty and staff, and members of the public in attendance asked questions about migration, the impact of U.S. tariffs on Ireland, upcoming Irish presidential election, and upcoming EU council presidency.
