“WORLDWIDE KISSES” Madison Honors Dante

Prof. Jelena Todorović of French and Italian and a group of students from Italian, Religious Studies, and Medieval Studies will participate in a worldwide virtual flash mob reading verses from Dante’s Inferno V. Link for live streaming will be distributed later this week.

Francesca da Rimini’s ecumenic flash mob: a tribute to Dante Alighieri in the seventh century of his death and to Francesca, worldwide heroine of love and passion.

On March 8, 2021 students and teachers from the universities of the five continents, from Beijing to Los Angeles, from Moscow to Cape Town, from Adelaide to Stockholm, from Siena to Sao Paulo, from Gradara to Tokyo, from Rimini to New York, will recite and comment in the language of their country on the V canto of Hell with the verses dedicated to passion and to the most famous kiss in the world.

Their performances will be spread via social media and a dedicated website.

A professional documentary film will be obtained from the filmed documents to be disclosed for educational and popular purposes.

UW-Madison is proud to be one of only three US universities to participate in this project. Students involved are: Delia Langefeld, Alejandro Onate, Lillian Kobs, Jadyn Meyer, Kaden Bosquez, and Libby Caes.

Professor Todorović will participate by reading the verses in her native Serbo-Croatian.
