With reference to three foundational articles and upcoming contributions to a special issue Monathefte, the participants will consider the following questions:

How has the lens of the transatlantic changed since the start of the 21st century? How, for example, has the increased prominence of black German studies and a focus on migration broadened the scope of ‘the transatlantic’ beyond North America and the U.S. to include South America, the Caribbean, and other under-looked constituencies?
