Sven-Oliver Proksch is Professor of Political Science and Chair for European and Multilevel Politics at the Institute of Political Science and European Affairs and the Cologne Center for Comparative Politics at the University of Cologne. He is also a member of the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute: Markets and Public Policy. His research interests include political representation, democratic political institutions, party politics, parliamentary debates, political text analysis, and European politics. Professor Proksch is principal investigator of the ERC Consolidator Project MINORITYRULE.

 

In 2012, he published his first book “Reforming the European Union: Realizing the Impossible” with Daniel Finke, Thomas König, and George Tsebelis. Three years later, he published “The Politics of Parliamentary Debate: Parties, Rebels, and Representation” which was awarded in 2016 with the Richard F. Fenno, Jr. Prize for the best book in legislative studies. More recently, in 2021, he released his “Foundations of European Politics. A Comparative Approach”, an accessible introduction to European politics using a coherent comparative and analytical framework.
