Susanne Even, “Performative Teaching and Learning in Times of the Pandemic: German and European Literatures in Translation”

This event has passed.

@ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Sponsored by the Center for German and European Studies.

Performative teaching and learning of foreign languages and their literatures have, in the last decades, made their way into pedagogical discourse. The rising number of conferences, symposia, colloquia and publications on both drama and theater pedagogy confirm this trend. The change to online learning in the wake of Covid-19 brought unique challenges to a pedagogical art form that is heavily dependent on physical presence, movement, and learner collaboration. This workshop offers conventions and strategies for teachers of languages and literatures that combine the virtual medium with the performative paradigm. Participants are encouraged to bring a short story (in English translation) to the workshop. In preparation for the workshop, it would be beneficial to have read this short fictional text that can be found at: pinkmonkey.com/dl/library1/story095.pdf (http://pinkmonkey.com/dl/library1/story095.pdf).
