Join European Studies and Madison College for a half-day event is designed for graduate students to explore career pathways at community and technical colleges. Participants will meet with administrators and faculty at Madison College to explore the role of these institutions in the U.S. educational system, the teaching experience at these institutions, and opportunities for international engagement. BRING YOUR QUESTIONS!
Who can attend? Enrollment is limited to 20 students. Graduate students from any department or program are invited to attend; however, this program is designed specifically for students from the social sciences and humanities with a focus on international, language, or area studies. If more than 20 students apply to attend, registrations will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis while ensuring the regional and disciplinary diversity of the participants.

Panel 1. What makes a community college? Mission. Vision. Values.
Brian Short (Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences) and Tara Ptasnik (Associate Dean of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences) will discuss the strategic role of community colleges, Madison College’s student-centered teaching mission, and the faculty recruitment and hiring process.
Panel 2. Why teach at a community college?
This panel discussion will feature part and full-time faculty from departments in the social sciences and humanities. Internationally-oriented scholars as well as international faculty will share their experiences as community college instructors.
Panel 3. International education
Leaders from the Madison College Center for International Education will discuss international academic programs including study abroad opportunities, support for international students, and special considerations for international faculty.
