The Graduate Association of French & Italian Students (GAFIS) is pleased to invite the UW campus community to its 32nd Annual GAFIS Symposium, “Shame.”
The interdisciplinary presentations of this conference seek to address several fundamental questions: Who experiences shame, and why? How does it divide, alienate, silence, or subjugate? Is shame internalized, hidden, and silent, or does it have a voice? Can it be healed, or even named? How is shame represented?
The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Mary C. Flannery, a Marie Curie Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, where she is currently working on obscenity in manuscripts and early print editions of “The Canterbury Tales.”
