“Dispatches from the Archives: Research Experiences and Strategies During the Pandemic”

This event has passed.

@ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Co-sponsored by The University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for German and European Studies, DAAD, and the Institute of European Studies at the University of California.

The Covid-19 pandemic rages on with no clear end in sight. But after nearly two years, graduate students across the social sciences and humanities must visit archives if they are to have any chance of completing their dissertations. Limited reading room capacity and intermittent closures, not to mention the virus itself, continue to pose challenges for graduate student researchers. The purpose of this workshop is to exchange experiences as well as tips and tricks for getting into archives across Germany and Austria. The organizers have been in Europe for the past six months and have some strategies to share for overcoming long wait times and getting to the documents. Discussion will follow a roundtable format, and so we invite participants to share their experiences—struggles and successes alike—in carrying out archival research during the pandemic.
