Sverker Lindblad, University of Gothenburg
Co-sponsored by Center for German and European Studies, Holz Center for Science & Technology Studies, Department of Curriculum & Instruction, School of Education Global Engagement Office.
We have engaged in a set of studies of the education policy/science agora in the Swedish welfare state, focusing on international large scale assessments. Of special interest is the comparativistic turn in science: statistical hierarchies created to rank and compare countries’ educational systems perform as policy agendas since 2006. The analyses are based on analyses of data from interviews with important actors, policy documents and public media at the agora related to Sweden. I discuss the outcomes of the comparativistic turn in science and education policy in an era of increasing political polarization in society and implications of this for research.
Professor Lindblad’s research crosses the fields of curriculum theory, education policy, and professionalization. He was the President of European Educational Research Association (EERA) and the current President of the Swedish Educational Research Association (SWERA).
