This exhibit is on loan from the Auschwitz Birkenau Museum in Poland and consists of 31 panels documenting the history of the camp: the reasons for founding the camp and the political background of its operation, the process of extermination of the Jews, various forms of extermination, and the conditions of living and employment of prisoners. The exhibition is based on source and iconographic materials of the Auschwitz- Birkenau State Museum.
This exhibit is being organized by the Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic, together with the Polish Student Association and the Polish Heritage Club in collaboration with the Wisconsin Union Directorate and with the support of Jewish Studies at UW.
