Manja Prȁkels, born in Zehdenick, East Germany in 1974, is the singer of the highly acclaimed band Der singende Tresen (The Singing Bar). She was co-editor of the narrative anthology Kaltand – a Collection, a classic of post-reunification literature. She was awarded the Kranichstein Youth Literature Scholarship and the German Children’s Literature Award for her debut novel When I ate Schanps Cherries with Hitler. She also received the Anna Seghers Prize for this novel.
