Ahti Salo, “Reflections on Providing Science-Based Policy Advice: Experiences from Finland’s COVID-19 Scientific Panel and Research Reviews”

Dr. Salo will discuss his contributions and experiences as part of the Finnish coronavirus pandemic response.
Ahti Salo researches the development of decision analytic methods and how these methods are used in resources allocation, innovation management, risk management, technology foresight, and efficient analysis. He has an extensive number of publications in internationally renowned scientific journals like the Management Science and Operations Research and has won research awards and recognition from the Decision Analysis Society of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). In addition to research, he serves on the Editorial Boards of several scholarly journals.
In 2019, Dr. Salo won the MCDM Edgeworth-Pareto Award, the highest distinction of the International Society for Multiple Criteria Decision Making. He has been visiting professor at the London Business School, Université Paris-Dauphine, and the University of Vienna and has served on multiple committees like the International Activities Committee of INFORMS, Finnish Operations Research Society (FORS), EDDA Doctoral Dissertation Award of the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO), and the Board of the Association of Parliament Members and Researchers (Tutkas). Most recently, he was appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office to be a member of the Science Panel, responsible for collecting scientific support for the management of the coronavirus pandemic in Finland. He is also member of the Government Foresight Group, appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office of Finland until 2023. He will cover some aspects of the COVID-19 Research Review.
