Both the US and EU have adopted regulations that seek to open the electric transmission grids to independent suppliers of electricity. This has resulted in significant divestitures in the EU and a complex regulatory system in the U.S. Thus, similar goals are being implemented in different ways. This will be an informal presentation of Dr. Herrera-Anchustegui’s initial comparisons with an emphasis on the ways in which the EU is seeking to achieve a more open market.

Dr. Ignacio Herrera-Anchustegui of Bergen University is a GLS Visiting Scholar. His overall project is a study of the regulatory efforts of the EU and the US to move the electric power systems toward a more market oriented focus. His visit to the US is sponsored by the American Bar Association’s Antitrust section.
